Summary : Development and validation of reliable diagnostic methods for determining the authenticity of varieties of poppy (Papaver somniferum L.) and commodities on the market. For laboratories working in the field of official control of foodstuffs and agricultural products methods based on (1) chemical analysis of metabolomic fingerprints, and (2) molecular genetic methods using DNA polymorphisms will be developed. Both types of validated methods using different principles are complementary and will be accredited. A methodology for quantification the portion of pharmaceutical poppy impurities in food and for analysis a range of opium alkaloids in poppy seeds will be designed and validated.
