The massive crackdown on widespread food adulteration rackets across the city last year notwithstanding, new gangs have become active, with the Rein Bazaar police busting one such gang in Yakutpura late on Tuesday night. One person of the gang, operating from Bagh-e-Jahara in Yakutpura, was arrested on charges of preparing adulterated cooking oil by melting animal waste, mainly from cattle, including the fat, flesh and bones, police said. The arrested person was identified as Mohammed Ghouse, 46, from Yakutpura, while his accomplices Rasool Bee, Sameena Begum, Mir Mumtaz Ali Khan, 74 and M.A.Shukur, 75, are absconding. According to the police, Ghouse was preparing the oil illegally, without a valid licence. |
