Abstract: Electronic tagging aims to catch food fish fraudsters. More than 5,000 tonnes of Loch Duart salmon is produced each yearJUSTIN SULLIVAN/GETTYA fish farm is to be the first in the northern hemisphere to introduce electronic tagging to tackle food fraud. Loch Duart, a fishery with sites in the Highlands and Outer Hebrides, will roll out technology that can prove the provenance of its salmon to stop rogue traders passing off lower-quality products as its own. From February the company will analyse trace elements in its fish using testing techniques created to identify human corpses. These elements, which have been absorbed by the fish, pinpoint the precise location of each fish farm and verify the salmon’s origin.
