The trial resulted in two men being jailed for their part in a conspiracy to sell 30 tonnes of horsemeat as beef, most of which entered the food chain. The Irish dairy sector itself has not escaped controversy in relation to food fraud. Recent years saw a high-profile case involving Clongowes Wood College, the prestigious boys secondary school based near Clane in Co Kildare which became caught up in an investigation involving the Department of Agriculture's Special Investigation Unit (SIU). |
