Authentication expert links Hong Kong auction house to Rudy Kurniawan. Another case of alleged wine fraud could be brewing after an anti-counterfeit campaigner shared his exhaustive research into a consignment of wines sold at auction with the Hong Kong authorities. California lawyer Don Cornwell became suspicious of some wines being offered by new auction house Dragon 8 last November and began investigating them. The wines were described by Dragon 8's principal auctioneer Gil Lempert-Schwartz as coming from the cellar of a Swedish nobleman and having impeccable provenance, but Cornwell believes that the wines instead came from a wine broker with links to convicted fraudster Rudy Kurniawan. In a post on the Wine Berserkers website, Cornwell said that he had initially been suspicious when he saw the auction catalog. |
