Abstract: |
Despite concerns about the safety of fish in Canada, Canadian seafood consumers are routinely given little or no information about the seafood we purchase. Moreover, the information on the labels and menus is often misleading or fraudulent. A new report from NGO Oceana Canada suggest seafood fraud is rampant in Ottawa, with findings showing fish mislabelling was present in almost half the samples tested. The report showed that 33% of the mislabelled product was species substitution. According to the report, restaurants have the highest rates of seafood fraud.
