The Interior Ministry’s anti-economic crime department yesterday destroyed more than 11 tonnes of mixed counterfeit goods and cosmetics that had been seized in the past. Lieutenant General Chan Vanthoeun, director of the anti-economic crime department, presided over a ceremony yesterday to burn the counterfeit goods at a garbage dump in Phnom Penh’s Dangkao district. Other participants in the ceremony included the deputy prosecutor of Phnom Penh Municipal Court, representatives of the government’s import-export inspection unit Camcontrol, the Institute of Standards of Cambodia and local authorities.“There were six types of counterfeit goods and more than 11 tonnes were burned,” Mr Vanthoeun said, adding the goods had been seized previously and included medical products, cosmetics, soft drinks and alcohol. Mr Vanthoeun said the Counter Counterfeit Committee has destroyed counterfeit products on 25 occasions. |
